25th Anniversary Ale 6.5% ABV

In 1990 Dave Wickett became pioneer by opening the first new independent brewery in Sheffield for 100 years.
Since the first day of brewing people have enjoyed what has become a taste of Sheffield and the brewery has gone from strength to strength. Following this lead our brewers have hand crafted this extra special 25th anniversary IPA.
In Celebration of our 25th Anniversary this year we have brewed something very special! With a limited run of 5000 bottles, the individually numbered bottles are now available from our brewery shop.

The Tap & Tankard

Sheffield’s Kelham Island Brewery has given a new lease of life to an old favourite. The Sportsman Rock Bar closed its doors earlier this year and the rockers moved a few hundred yards to the Yorkshireman Rock Bar on Burgess Street. The pub was standing empty until Kelham Island took the gamble, stepped in and after a frantic refurbishment it will be reopening on Friday 12 December as ‘The Tap & Tankard’.

Ed Wickett, owner of Kelham Island Brewery commented:
“We know this part of town has been earmarked for redevelopment since 2005 but the pub was empty and in a good spot so we decided to give it a go. We might only be here for a few years but it was too good an opportunity to miss”

“We are going provide a great line up of cask ales, from different local breweries, in a relaxed atmosphere. The location fits in nicely with some of the city’s other great cask ale pubs so we hope people will pop in and give us a try”.

‘The Tap & Tankard’ is situated on Cambridge Street next to ‘John Lewis’ and will be open every day between 11am and midnight. The ‘rock bar’ look has been replaced with a bright new interior boasting a Sheffield theme. The tables and chairs have all been replaced with new items and there are no plans for a jukebox or televisions. The cask ales will rotate on a regular basis, there will be a premium lager and a selection of speciality bottled beers and ciders.

Ed Wickett continued:

“We have no plans to provide meals just yet but it will be something for us to look at next year. Of course the famous Kelham Island ‘Pork Pies’ will be available and we may be introducing a larger size especially for sharing”tap

Arctic Monkeys 2014 Finsbury Park 23rd and 24th May

It’s a crazy time at Kelham Island Brewery as we all prepare to relocate to Finsbury Park for the Bank Holiday weekend, we don’t know what to expect so we’ll ‘suck it and see’. The Kelham Island ‘Easy Rider Bar’ will be keeping thirsty festivalgoers refreshed for two days and the big transfer of beer and equipment is about to begin. We’re setting off early ‘before the lights come on’. The weather is predicted to be good and we have taken our best guesstimate at how many pints of beer 100,000 people can drink over two days, ‘I bet you’ll look good in the beer queue’.
If you are lucky enough to be there call in for a beer, you will see our boys busy behind the bar, they ‘can’t sit down cause we’ve moved their chairs away’.
The bar will be open ‘until the sun goes down’. Stay until the end and you will be able to have ‘one for the road’.Image

Jim Connolly joins us for Brewery Open Day

The open day went really well, the weather was gorgeous and lots of people made it down to Kelham Island to visit the brewery and sample our beer. We had free brewery tours, beer tasting, a mini keg sale and a BBQ and band on in the Fat Cat.

We also had Jim Connolly, one of Sheffield’s leading artists and the inspiration behind the artwork for many of our most popular pump clips, join us in our loft bar. He was selling his prints, including his latest Pale Rider poster as featured in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5EkX7GruuY

Voted Best Brewery in Sheffield at Exposed Awards 2013

Last night saw the Exposed 2013 awards at Sheffield’s O2 Academy where we’d been nominated for the Best Brewery in Sheffield 2013. The lads had an enjoyable evening attending the event and brought back the award for Best Brewery and Best Real Ale Pub in Sheffield! Thank you to everyone that voted for us because the awards were based on public votes which makes us especially honoured and proud of the award. Thanks to all our lads in the brewery, working through the harsh Sheffield winters so Kelham beer can be enjoyed in cosy pubs across Yorkshire and the UK.  We will continue to keep up the good work brewing our regular favourites and be sure to look out for some exciting new beers in the months to come!Image
